If you’re on the hunt for a list of healthy snacks that will help with your weight loss goals by making you feel full, this collection of 10 healthy snacks for weight loss is a great place to start. It has great ideas for quick and easy foods you can grab when you’re on the go, and I’m especially excited about # 6 (spoiler alert: it involves chocolate)!
Almonds are loaded with health benefits, like reducing heart attack risk and lowering bad cholesterol, but did you know they can also help you lose weight? It’s true! Almonds are low in calories, but loaded with protein and fiber to help keep you feeling full longer, which makes them a healthy snack to grab when you’re on the run. Just be sure not to eat the entire bag as they are quite high in fat. 🙂
2. GREEK YOGURT WITH FRESH BERRIES
If you haven’t already made the switch from regular to Greek yogurt, you’re really missing out. Greek yogurt is not only creamier and tastier (in my opinion, anyway), but it’s also packed with protein to help you feel full. I always opt for the plain, fat-free options so that I’m not wasting my fat, sugar, and calorie intake on one snack, but I spice things up by adding a handful of fiber-rich fresh berries. It’s delicious!
3. APPLE SLICES WITH PEANUT BUTTER
An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but did you know it can also keep the pounds away? I wasn’t really convinced either, I discovered that apples are high in protein, low in calories, and contain enzymes that help your body digest food efficiently. I usually chase my apple with a lean source of protein, like a cup of skim milk or a dollop of Greek yogurt, but on days when I feel like I cannot make it to dinner without polishing off a bag of chips, I add a tablespoon (or 2) of peanut butter instead.
Up until a couple of months ago, I avoided avocados like the plague as I assumed their high fat content was bad for my waistline. As it turns out, I was totally mistaken, and after discovering avocados are a superfood that can help you get a flat belly, I replaced my mid-afternoon latte and blueberry bar with half an avocado topped with a tablespoon of low-fat cottage cheese. Yum!
If you’re looking for a snack that will make you feel full and satisfied so you won’t spend the afternoon grazing, pop yourself a bag of plain popcorn. It isn’t as exciting as the buttery bag you’ll find at the movie theater, but it’s better than munching on a bowl of spinach, right?
6. DARK CHOCOLATE
Yup. You read that right. Dark chocolate is a great snack if you’re trying to lose weight as it helps fight off spikes in your insulin levels. Don’t believe me? Oh, and just to be clear, it has to be plain DARK chocolate. Not milk chocolate. And certainly not that Snickers bar that’s hiding in the top drawer of your desk at work.
7. GREEN TEA
Alright, so this isn’t exactly a snack, but after reading that green tea can reduce your appetite, boost your metabolism, and help you burn fat, I’ve ditched my afternoon run to Starbucks for a cup of green tea. It’s not quite as satisfying as those caramel-infused beverages I used to enjoy, but I feel healthier and less hungry as a result.
8. SPICY FOODS
Did you know that spicy foods can help you lose weight by increasing your metabolism? I certainly didn’t. But after reading about the science behind spicy foods and weight loss,I’m definitely turning up the heat on my meals. Oh, and I’m particularly excited about this list of 8 Hot and Spicy Snacks Under 80 Calories, which I save for my cheat days. 🙂
I recently learned that grapefruit has a slew of health benefits, like improving your immune system and combatting stress, but I was most excited to discover that it can also boost your metabolism. I try to eat half a grapefruit before breakfast and dinner, but on the days I forget, I find it makes a great mid-morning snack as it keeps me going until lunch.
